Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation (KAPF) administers merit-based and/or need-based scholarships with various eligibility criteria, KAPF may administer scholarships for other organizations whose mission or purpose is consistent with those of KAPF and Kamehameha Schools.

Current scholarships were created by private donors and are awarded on the basis of academic merit and/or donor specified criteria. Applications are open to the general public, including students who are not graduates of Kamehameha Schools. However, it is the policy of KAPF to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation administers scholarships with various eligibility requirements. To apply for KAPF scholarships, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Be enrolled full-time in an accredited two or four-year post-high degree program.  Some scholarships allow for part-time enrollment; check eligibility criteria.  Documentation of acceptance will be required to receive an award.
    Full-time enrollment is defined as:
    - Undergraduate: 12 credits per term
    - Graduate or Doctoral Programs: 6-9 credits per term *
    * or the minimum number of credits required by the degree program 
  2. Be actively pursuing a degree.
  3. Regardless of financial need, you must submit a FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).
  4. Meet any special requirements specific to the scholarships listed online.

1)  REVIEW KAPF Scholarships available online here.
In addition to our general application requirements, some scholarship funds have specific special requirements defined by the donor such as letters of recommendations or essays. Download a listing of our current scholarships available here and determine which scholarships you are eligible for.

2)  PREPARE any personal statements, essays or request letters of recommendation in advance (if they are required by the specific scholarships you are applying for). The general application will also require you to answer the following questions:

  • Describe the qualities and characteristics you possess that make you a worthy scholarship recipient.
  • What are your reasons for attending college and your chosen field(s) of
    study, and how would you relate those reasons to seeking and achieving a career goal?
  • In receiving a scholarship, how will your college experience benefit the Hawaiian community in particular and the Hawai'i community at-large when you complete your education?
  • Share anything special you would like the selection committee to know about yourself.

3)  COMPLETE your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Once your FAFSA has been processed, you will need to provide a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) which is your official record that your FAFSA was received.  You may access a copy of your SAR at the FAFSA web site by clicking on “view and print your student aid report”.

4)  REQUEST your Official Transcript of Grades to be sent directly to KAPF.

5)  APPLY online at www.Pauahi.org between March 1 - May 2, 2008.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
All documents must be postmarked by Friday, May 2, 2008 or hand-delivered to the Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation office by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008.

AWARD NOTIFICATION
Notification letters will be mailed to the current address provided in July 2008.  If you are selected to receive a scholarship, you must formally accept the funds by signing and returning a KAPF scholarship agreement form.

Preference to Applicants of Hawaiian Ancestry

Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation (KAPF) policy is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

KAPF utilizes the services of Kamehameha Schools' Ho'oulu Hawaiian Data Center (HHDC) to verify Hawaiian ancestry of those applicants who wish to be considered under the Foundation's preference policy. Upon receipt of your completed scholarship application, if you have not previously registered with the HHDC, you will receive an HHDC registration form which you should complete if you wish to be considered under the Foundation's preference policy.
