Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation (Foundation) administers merit-based and/or need-based scholarships with various eligibility criteria, Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation may administer scholarships for other organizations whose mission or purpose is consistent with those of Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation and Kamehameha Schools.

Current scholarships were created by private donors and are awarded on the basis of academic merit and/or donor specified criteria. Applications are open to the general public, including students who are not graduates of Kamehameha Schools. However, it is the policy of Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation administers scholarships with various eligibility requirements.  To apply for Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation scholarships, you must meet the following GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be enrolled full-time in an accredited two or four-year post-high degree program.  Some scholarships allow for part-time enrollment; check eligibility criteria.  Documentation of acceptance will be required to receive an award.
    Full-time enrollment is defined as:
    - Undergraduate: 12 credits per term
    - Graduate or Doctoral Programs: 6-9 credits per term *
    * or the minimum number of credits required by the degree program 
  2. Be a classified student in a degree-seeking program at an accredited institution (see individual scholarship description for details)
  3. Regardless of financial need, you must submit a FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).
  4. Meet any special requirements specific to the scholarships listed online.

GET A HEAD START PRIOR TO (date to be determined)

1)  REVIEW Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation Scholarships available online here.
In addition to our general application requirements, some scholarship funds have specific special requirements defined by the donor such as letters of recommendations or essays. Download a listing of our current scholarships available here and determine which scholarships you are eligible for.

2)  PREPARE any personal statements, essays or request letters of recommendation in advance (if they are required by the specific scholarships you are applying for). The general application will also require you to answer the following questions:

  • Describe the qualities and characteristics you possess that make you a worthy scholarship recipient.
  • What are your reasons for attending college and your chosen field(s) of
    study, and how would you relate those reasons to seeking and achieving a career goal?
  • In receiving a scholarship, how will your college experience benefit the Hawaiian community in particular and the Hawai'i community at-large when you complete your education?
  • Share anything special you would like the selection committee to know about yourself.

3)  COMPLETE your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Once your FAFSA has been processed, you will need to provide a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).  Your SAR will summarize all the information you provided on  your FAFSA.  Your SAR will usually contain your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is the number used in determining your eligibility for federal student aid and also the number Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation uses to determine financial need.  Your EFC will appear in the upper right-hand portion of a paper SAR or an electronic SAR.  Click here for a PDF of the SAR Download Instructions
Electronic SAR
You will receive your SAR by e-mail within 3-5 days after your FAFSA has been processed, if you provided an e-mail address when you applied.  This e-mail will contain a secure link so you can access your SAR online.  If  you have a "junk" folder or "spam" folder in  your e-mail files, check it.  The e-mail from FAFSA might be delivered there instead of your inbox.
Paper SAR
You will receive a paper SAR by mail within 7-10 days after your FAFSA has been processed if you do not provide an e-mail address when you apply.

4)  REQUEST your Official Transcript of Grades to be sent directly to Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation.

5)  APPLY online at www.pauahi.org between (for 2011, dates still to be determined).  

APPLICATION DEADLINE         **Now closed**
All documents must be postmarked by Thursday, April 1, 2010 or hand-delivered to the Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation office by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2010.

AWARD NOTIFICATION
Notification letters will be mailed to the current address provided in July 2010.  If you are selected to receive a scholarship, you must formally accept the funds by signing and returning a Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation scholarship agreement form.

Preference to Applicants of Hawaiian Ancestry

Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation (KAPF) policy is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation utilizes the services of Kamehameha Schools' Ho'oulu Hawaiian Data Center (HHDC) to verify Hawaiian ancestry of those applicants who wish to be considered under the Foundation's preference policy. Upon receipt of your completed scholarship application, if you have not previously registered with the HHDC, you will receive an HHDC registration form which you should complete if you wish to be considered under the Foundation's preference policy.
