Here are some commonly asked questions about the Pauahi Foundation.
How can I make a donation?
Donations are gladly accepted by mail, telephone, in person and online. For more information, please visit our Giving section.
Where does my donation go?
100% of all donations to the Foundation are allocated towards providing financial support in the form of post-high scholarships and grants to people of Hawaiian ancestry. Donations made to the Foundation can be allocated to the following giving areas:
- Early Childhood Education
- Charter School Support
- Land Stewardship
- Advancing Hawaiian Language
If you choose to make an unrestricted donation, your gift will be put to good use by the Foundation based on areas of need.
Can I make a donation in honor or in memory of someone?
Absolutely. To make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one, friend or colleague, please visit our Giving page.
What is the fund requirement to established an endowed fund?
The Foundation offers guidance throughout the donation process to help you reach the new Board approved $10,000 minimum gift level to establish a Named Endowment Fund or the $50,000 minimum gift level required to establish Named Scholarship Endowment.
Our one-time Foundation matching incentive program is no longer available. However, with these two new endowment levels, the Foundation will award approximately the equivalent of 4% of the endowment value in the first year of the award with monies coming from the Foundation’s unrestricted fund. This will allow for growth for the first year, and recognition for donors would be immediate.
Donors establishing a Named Endowment Fund at the $10,000 gift level will be able to choose from one of the 6-8 pre-set Foundation awards which are designed to align with the most common scholarship criteria like Trade Schools/Community College, Education, Business, STEM (Science, Technology, Education, Math), Leadership, Medicine and Special Needs. Although donors will not have a role in the selection or awarding of these funds, you will be advised of the recipient(s) and invited to connect at our annual Foundation gathering.
Donors creating a Named Scholarship Endowment at the new minimum gift level of $50,000 will be able to present proposed individual criteria for awards approved by the Foundation and within state and federal guidelines. Donors will be allowed to participate in the review of applicant materials, and may also participate in the rank ordering of applicants. However, final selection of recipients will be at the sole discretion of the Pauahi Foundation.
