2007 Denis Wong & Associates Scholarship Recipient

Carolyn L. Wong is a diligent, disciplined mother and student dedicated to her career as a Soil Conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources in Waimea, Hawai'i. As a child, Carolyn immediately recognized her natural love for the land and spent time with her father's 'ohana planting mai'a and kalo. After graduating from Lahainaluna, a school rich with specialized natural resource career programs, she fulfilled her parents' dream and became the only person in her family to attend college.

Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Recipient

Tyler H. Stevenson is a graduate of Lahainaluna High School and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a long-term goal of attending Law School. Born and raised on the island of Maui, Tyler completed his Pre-Business Liberal Arts courses at Maui Community College and became a distinguished Phi Theta Kappa member. Leilani, a graduate of James B. Castle High School in Kaneohe, is a first-year graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in elementary education at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Multi-tasking is nothing new to Leilani; she attends classes in the evening in addition to teaching first grade at Waimānalo elementary school on the Windward side of O‘ahu full time during the day.

Inspired to be an Educator

Nanette is the epitome of the "super mom," and is truly an inspiration to all of us. As a working mother of five young children, who is also pursuing an Associate of Arts degree at Leeward Community College, Nanette has a disciplined routine to keep her keiki on track with after-school activities, homework, dinner, baths, and bed time. And in her personal essay for the scholarship, she told us that she does not take any phone calls between 6-8 p.m.

Goldman Sachs/Matsuo Takabuki Recipients

Nicholas K. G.Tevaga and Ramie L. Fernandez have a lot to celebrate. This year, they were selected as two of the five Goldman Sachs/Matsuo Takabuki Commemorative Scholarship recipients receiving a combined total of $22,000 in scholarship awards. Established by Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment banking firm, and retired Kamehameha Schools Trustee Matsuo Takabuki, this scholarship provides assistance for students pursuing graduate degrees in business or financial services related fields.

Anne H. Myers Scholarship Recipient

Lori LolotaiLori, a graduate of Moanalua High School ('86) has made a choice to return to school to further her education to advance her career in Early Childhood Education through pursuing a degree at Chaminade University. At times it can be challenging to hold down a full time job and raising two children while going back to school.

Native Hawaiian Visual Arts Scholarship Award

Matthew OrtizMathew Ortiz moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Kamehameha Schools in 2002 to attend Loyola Marymount University. Feeling the need as an artist to be "knee deep in the lo'i of culture," he returned home in 2004 to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts at UH Manoa.

2006 "Proud to be '73" Scholarship Recipient

Heidi Aceret '90 is a mother of three very active children and works full time for the Department of Education on Kaua'i. The first person in her family to pursue a graduate degree, she realized that she loves to learn and is a lifelong learner while taking her first graduate courses with the University of Phoenix after earning her Bachelors from BYU in 1995.

Johnny Pineapple Scholarship Recipient

Kiele is a graduate student pursuing a master's degree at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and is the recipient of the Johnny Pineapple Scholarship which is administered by the Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation.
