Joseph Nāwahī Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Joseph Nāwahī, a respected lawyer, legislator, journalist and educator, who was chief advisor to Queen Lili'uokalani before the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893. This scholarship supports a full-time student pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher learning located in Hawai'i studying Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Politics, Law (specific to Hawaiian legal issues), or communications (specific to Hawaiian history, culture and politics) with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and who shows demonstrated financial need.
Requirements:
- College Acceptance Letter (if you are attending a college or university for the first time or currently enrolled college student changing schools or degree programs)
- Official Transcript of Grades
- Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Minimum GPA 3.2
- Attending a post-secondary institution in Hawai`i
- Graduate student
- Pursuing Hawaiian studies, Hawaiian politics, Law (specific to Hawaiian legal issues), or Communications/Journalism (specific to Hawaiian history, culture and politics).
Additional items required:
• Submit two letters of recommendation; one from a teacher or counselor and one from a community organization.
• Submit essay demonstrating how to engage young people through communication and describe your leadership potential in the community.
