John and Reiko Kuga Phillip Scholarship
Established to honor the memories of John and Reiko Kuga Phillip, this scholarship will support students who share their love of fine arts and/or interests in maritime pursuits. With lives and residences in both Hawai`i and Japan, Reiko Kuga Phillip pursued her love and artistic flair for such refined activities as doll making, painting and flower arrangements. John Phillip was a merchant marine traveling far from his home in Niuli`i, Kohala, Hawai`i to serve over a period of 40 years. Childless in their almost 50 years of marriage, the establishment of a scholarship in their name will extend their posterity and memory and encourage students to pursue their love of the fine and/or interests in maritime pursuits without the hindrance of financial worries.
