Interim Executive Director
Pono Ma‘a was named the interim executive director of the Pauahi Foundation in June 2015. In his new position, Pono’s task will be to lead, push forward and continue the current strategic direction of the organization under the guidance of the Pauahi Foundation’s Board of Directors.
He will also be responsible for leading the development of the Foundation’s strategic plan to align with Kamehameha Schools Strategic Plan 2020.
Pono brings more than 12 years of experience in planning and implementing community-driven programs and initiatives.
Since 2011, he served as the director of Kamehameha Schools’ seven resource centers located across the islands. Pono’s responsibilities included managing the statewide support for the school’s educational programs and service units through the resource centers, as well as coordinating and maintaining partnerships with community members and business groups.
His prior work experience includes an eight-year stint, beginning in 2003, serving as the admissions manager for Kamehameha Schools Kapālama.
In addition, Pono, a former standout volleyball player for the University of Hawai‘i’s men’s team, is a former director and head coach of the KS Kapālama’s boy’s volleyball program.
A 1982 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Pono carries a bachelor’s in communications from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Melissa is responsible for providing administrative support to the Executive Director and managing the Foundation’s daily office operations. Prior to becoming the executive assistant, she served as the Foundation’s annual giving specialist and preceding that role as its administrative coordinator. Melissa earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Myron Mitsuyasu, CPA
Director of Finance
Myron is responsible for the fiscal management of the Foundation’s operations, resources and activities. He has 18 years of service with Kamehameha Schools, including work as the director of operations for the Community-Based Early Childhood Education Division, internal audit manager, and tax administrator. He is also an accounting instructor at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and a certified public accountant in the state of Hawai‘i.
Myron received his bachelor of science in accountancy from Bentley College, and a master of business administration from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Ben manages the branding and messaging initiatives relating to giving opportunities and scholarships at the Foundation. He has over nine years of marketing and advertising experience. Ben was previously an account supervisor at the Harris Agency. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Donor Database Specialist
Shannon is responsible for managing our constituent database, including updating constituent information, processing gifts, and generating donation reports. Prior to joining the Foundation, she served as the development assistant at Catholic Charities Hawai‘i. Shannon earned her associate and bachelor degrees in human service management from the University of Phoenix.
Director of Alumni Relations
Dancine is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and events that keep Kamehameha alumni connected and involved with the Foundation, Kamehameha Schools and other alumni. She has 18 years of experience in the banking industry, most recently as assistant vice president and manager of the Pukalani branch of American Savings Bank.
Dancine is heavily involved with the school as the president of the Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association-Maui Region and has assisted with the coordination of alumni week on the Kapālama campus and ho‘olaule‘a on Maui. She received a bachelor of arts in liberal sciences and Hawaiian studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Donor Relations and Development Manager
Bran-Dee is responsible for planning and managing fundraising programs and partnerships with Kamehameha Schools’ alumni, faculty, staff, students and parents, as well as the general public.
Bran-Dee’s past experience includes work at Santa Clara University as the Assistant Development Director and at The Harker School as the Director of Annual Giving. Bran-Dee received her bachelor’s degree in business marketing from Santa Clara University.
A new addition to the Pauahi Foundation team, Lani will work alongside Bran-Dee in planning and managing the Foundation’s development program with a focus on major fundraising events. She brings over 15 years of extensive leadership and organizational experience, which includes a variety of manager and director positions with the Hawaiʻi State Senate, the Visitors and Convention Bureau, Kalo-TV and the Hawaiʻi State House of Representatives to name a few.
Lani most recently worked with Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i as their Director of Development where she was responsible for planning and implementing all major fundraising initiatives.
She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Scholarships Services Manager
Mavis is responsible for overseeing and maintaining our scholarship program. She works closely with Bran-Dee to ensure the connection between scholarship donors, funds and recipients are cohesive.
Mavis’ work experience includes 23 years with Kamehameha Schools in a variety of positions. Prior to joining the Foundation, she served as manager for Kamehameha Schools’ O‘ahu Regional Resource Center. Mavis has a bachelor of arts in Hawaiian studies from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Special Events and Public Relations Specialist
Recently hired as the Special Events and Public Relations Specialist, Roberto will be responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of Foundation events. He brings over five years of experience in fundraising and event planning. Previously, Roberto served as the Senior Manager at the American Cancer Society (Honolulu), and played a pivotal role in organizing their Relay for Life events on O‘ahu including working closely with Kamehameha Schools alumni as the event staff partner for the Relay for Life at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology for the University of Guam.
Alumni Relations Coordinator
Denise works closely with Dancine on planning and executing programs and activities to ensure that Kamehameha Schools alumni stay connected with the school, foundation, and other alumni. Prior to joining the Foundation, she was a Mortgage Consultant with Hawai‘i Community Lending, as well as a Homebuyer Education Trainer with Hawaiian Community Assets. She also was part-owner and creator of Imua Lounge. Denise earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Willamette University and a master’s degree in human services: counseling/psychology from the University of Portland.
Scholarship Services Specialist
Scott works in tandem with Mavis to process and oversee the scholarship program for both internal offerings to Kamehameha Schools seniors and the general public. He comes to the Foundation with a business background, and carries a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Hawai‘i Pacific University and has an extensive background in the non-profit arena.
Scholarship and Administrative Assistant
Kelli is responsible for managing the Pauahi Foundation’s daily administrative operations, including, but not limited to, processing purchase requisitions and payments, coordinating travel for staff, updating alumni and donor records in database, managing office calendars, and reconciling p-card charges. She also provides support with processing scholarship applications and documents.
Prior to joining the Foundation, she was an applicant services assistant with Kamehameha Schools’ Financial Aid and Scholarship Services Division. Kelli received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in business administration from Hawai‘i Pacific University.
