Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation Welcomes New Board of Directors

Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation welcomed their new board of directors on January 1, 2012: Lance Keawe Wilhelm, Janeen-Ann Ahulani Olds, Dee Jay Mailer, Lee Ann DeLima, Caroline Peters Belsom, C. Manu Ka‘iama, and William “Billy” Pieper II.

Historically made up solely of Kamehameha Schools trustees, the restructured board is aimed at providing a well-balanced and diverse range of expertise from within the Kamehameha Schools ‘ohana.

“This is the first time in the Foundation’s 10-year existence that we are expanding the board to not only include other Kamehameha Schools staff but also members from the community,”  said Kalei Stern KSK'89, executive director of Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation. “The new board will provide the strategic leadership and community insight needed to further our mission in helping Native Hawaiians pursue their educational goals.”

New Directors

 
Lance Keawe Wilhelm KSK'83
Recently selected as a Kamehameha Schools trustee, Lance Keawe Wilhelm is the senior vice president and Hawai‘i area manager for Kiewit Building Group Inc. With Kiewit for over 23 years, his responsibilities include overseeing the financial and operational performance of the Hawai‘i area office. Wilhelm earned his bachelor of arts in communications from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
  Janeen-Ann Ahulani Olds
Janeen-Ann Ahulani Olds is in her second year as a Kamehameha Schools trustee. She has practiced law in the state of Hawai‘i since 1988, and is currently working as general counsel for Waimana Enterprises, Inc. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame before attending the Boston College Law School. Her past experience includes 20 years with the law firm Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda, LLP.
  Dee Jay Mailer KSK’70
Dee Jay Mailer has been the chief executive officer of Kamehameha Schools since 2004. She is responsible for leading the school in its efforts to improve the capability and well-being of Hawaiians through education; strengthen the endowment that supports its educational programs; and build strong relationships with its stakeholders and the community. Previously, Mailer served as chief operating officer of the United Nations-supported Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She earned a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor of science degree in professional nursing from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. 
  Lee Ann DeLima KSK’77
Lee Ann DeLima has been the headmaster of Kamehameha Schools’ Maui campus since 2006. She began her career at the K-12 campus in October 1999 as a vice principal and counselor. Prior to Kamehameha Schools, DeLima was vice principal at Lahainaluna High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University Hawai‘i, a master of science degree in educational administration from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and is currently working towards her doctoral degree with the University of Phoenix. 
  Caroline Peters Belsom KSK’66
Caroline Peters Belsom is an attorney at Caroline Peters Belsom, Attorney at Law, LLC, a Maui law firm specializing in commercial and residential real estate, general business, contracts, community and homeowner associations, and legal services for non-profit groups. Previously, Belsom was the vice president and general counsel at Kapalua Land Company, Ltd. She earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College, a master’s degree from Iowa State University, and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. 
  C. Manu Ka‘iama KSK’78
C. Manu Ka‘iama has been an instructor at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business and the Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies since 2006. Ka‘iama is also the director and principal investigator for the Kaulele Program, a program that provides stipends and educational counseling to Native Hawaiian students enrolled in degree programs where Hawaiians are underrepresented. A certified public accountant in the state of Hawai‘i, she earned a bachelor of business administration in accounting and master’s in both business administration and Hawaiian studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.   
  William “Billy” Pieper II KSK’96
Billy Pieper has been the vice president and manager of Retirement Plan Services at Bank of Hawai‘i for the past four years. Previously, he was the president and owner of the financial advising firm Asset Enhancement Group. His past experience also includes work as the manager/branch office supervisor and financial planner with Beneficial Financial Group. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a master of business administration from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. 

All members of the newly formed board were appointed by the current Kamehameha Schools trustees.
