Contest Information

In an effort to increase Hawai‘i’s food production, Kamehameha Schools and the Pauahi Foundation presents the Mahi‘ai Match-Up contest to attract farmers with innovative ideas to scale up their existing farm operations.

Prizes

Winning teams for this year will receive a prize pool totaling $30,000 in project start-up monies from the Pauahi Foundation to expand their current business model to include something that is new and innovative.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a tenant of KS on Agricultural/Conservation zoned land.

  • Aug. 1, 2017: Registration opens
  • Sept. 1, 2017: Registration & business plan summary deadline
  • Sept. 15, 2017: First round of finalists notified
  • Oct. 2, 2017: Business Plans deadline
  • Oct. 25, 2017: Presentation to judges
  • Oct. 27, 2017: Finalists notified
  • Nov. 1, 2017: Hawai‘i Food & Wine "Raw & Wild In the Tank" Event - Winners announced

Application submission:

  1. Mail (postmarked by September 1, 2017) or Drop off (between 7:30am - 4:15pm) to Kamehameha Schools, Mahi‘ai Scale-Up, 567 South King Street, Suite 200, Honolulu HI 96813-3036
  2. Email to land@ksbe.edu

Application should include:

  • Application form
  • Financials (if desired)
  • KS Agreement (ROE, License and Lease)

Contestants may submit a for-profit or not-for-profit business plan. Please refer to our "List of Resources" page for more information on business plans.
