Previous Efforts

Phase 1

Alumni Book Drive. In 2004 Kamehameha Schools alumni raised $64,000 to purchase two 15-book sets of Kamehameha Schools Press publications. Each set included an eight-book monarchy collection, from Kamehameha the Great to Queen Lili'uokalani, as well as other titles, including "Stories of Life in Old Hawai'i," "Tales of the Menehune" and "From the Mountains to the Sea: Early Hawaiian Life." Enough money was raised to purchase two sets of these books for every elementary school in the state of Hawai'i.

Phase 2

Charter Schools' Library. A fund was established through Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation (KAPF) to help stock the libraries in Hawaiian-focused charter schools. Through a partnership that Kamehameha Publishing established with Bishop Museum Press and University of Hawai'i Press, age and culturally appropriate titles were made available at cost or deeply discounted prices. Alumni and friends have once again generously contributed so that Hawaiian-focused charter schools will received culturally relevant books.
