There have been more than 225 letters written by 42 different ali‘i, or high ranking Hawaiians, between 1820 and 1907. These letters have been digitized, transcribed, translated and annotated by interns under the direction of Dr. Puakea Nogelmeier, Executive Director of the Awaiaulu Foundation. These words from the ali‘i themselves give us a remarkable lens through which we can view nineteenth century life in our islands.
Prior to the presentation, the Alumni Relations Office will host a meet and greet with Dr. Woods, Dr. Nogelmeier, Dr. Lyon and the Awaiaulu interns.
Register for meet and greet by visiting our event registration page.
The Ka‘iwakīloumoku-Cultural Events Series presentation will then occur in Ululani Hale from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. (see flyer below)
