Aloha mai kākou,
The month of November is one of my favorites! It kicks off the holiday season on a good note with ‘ono food and much-needed family time during Thanksgiving.
For me, November is my last chance to take a breather and reflect on the many blessings throughout the year before the bustle of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Looking back, the past 10 months here at the Kamehameha Schools as the new Director of Advancement and Executive Director of the Pauahi Foundation have been both exciting and humbling. Not many have an opportunity to help advance such an incredible mission, let alone, a legacy of giving that has helped countless Hawaiians improve their lives through education.
Speaking of legacy, November also marks the anniversary of the founding of Kamehameha Schools. On Nov. 4th, 130 years ago, the Kamehameha School for Boys held a dedication ceremony at its Kaiwi‘ula campus (current site of Bishop Museum) to welcome the school’s first students. As we remember this significant milestone and with Founder’s Day around the corner, make sure to be on the lookout for information on Founder’s Day events near you.
As we come up to the end of November, I do want to bring your attention to a new holiday tradition that also kicks off the holiday season. Giving Tuesday, which is celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a global day of giving. To learn more or to join in by making a gift to the Pauahi Foundation in support of student success, please visit www.pauahi.org/giving.
Mahalo nui loa for your continued generosity—our work would not be possible without the support of our over 2,000 donors. I have had the great pleasure of meeting many of you throughout my short time here and I look forward to many more opportunities to connect. Your support and mana‘o is much appreciated.
On behalf of the Office of Advancement and the Pauahi Foundation, hau‘oli lā ho‘omaika‘i! We wish you a blessed and prosperous holiday season!
