Aloha mai kākou,
Hope you all are having a joyful and family-filled holiday season. These months are often the busiest for many of us. Lots of family gatherings, laughter, and of course, ‘ono food!
During these times, it’s good to take a break and reflect on the many blessings afforded to us throughout the year. As we ready ourselves to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, let us not forget about one more day to remember and be thankful for—Founder’s Day.
This year marks the 129th Founder’s Day. Celebrated on Ke Ali‘i Pauahi’s birthday, Dec. 19th, this day of remembrance serves as an opportunity to honor and show appreciation for a legacy of giving that has served thousands of Hawaiian learners.
There are a number of ceremonies throughout Hawai‘i, as well as a few on the continent, to give you an opportunity to honor our Princess. See a list of events.
This December 19th, whether you have been a beneficiary of Pauahi’s gift directly or indirectly, I ask you to take a moment to remember our remarkable benefactor. Please reflect on what she has provided for our lāhui and on her true example of kahiau. Her generosity uplifted our people and in return our kuleana is to keep her vision moving forward.
Happy Founder’s Day and I wish you all a safe and joyous holiday season!
Me ka ha‘aha‘a,
Interim Executive Director
